"Reflections of a Feminist Film Maker"
Kum-Kum Bhavnani is an internationally acclaimed film-maker and scholar, known for her multilayered approach to documenting inequalities and building a more just, livable planet. Her research, teaching, and filmmaking investigate the intersection of equity/diversity, international development /global alternatives with interdisciplinary cultural studies.
Kum-Kum is also a Distinguished Professor with Feminist and International Studies in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, filmmaker and author. She will reflect on her time as the editor of the "Meridians: feminism, race, transnationalism" academic journal, and directing the award-winning film documentaries "Nothing Like Chocolate," and "The Shape of Water."
