Out to Lunch-The Copper 

Join us on Tuesday, March 24th for an Italian luncheon at the latest iteration of this charming historical location now called The Copper, in honor of its beginnings as The Copper Pot.   We have reserved 3 tables of 6 on the patio and the warm and friendly manager and owner Rish has agreed to separate checks.  

Their menu celebrates the art of the Neapolitan pizza, made using centuries-old techniques and ingredients imported directly from Italy. From the simplicity of the classic Margherita to bold seasonal specials, each dish is a tribute to authentic Italian flavor.  You can watch your pizza being baked in their imported stone oven!  They also serve salads, assorted pastas, and chicken and salmon entrees.

Join us for a Party on the Pier Happy Hour at Moby Dick’s on March 26!

Come enjoy a fabulous sunset on the water while we watch the boats go by from the patio and inside the bar. It’s the perfect excuse to gather, relax, and soak up those beautiful coastal views together.

Happy Hour features delicious sliders, fresh oysters, crispy calamari, and great drink specials — something for everyone!

The Oyster Bar is a relatively new addition to Moby Dick Restaurant. The Oyster Bar is a beautifully designed facility with a 270 degree view of the city, the harbor, and the Santa Barbara Channel. It features a curated selection of fresh seafood, craft cocktails, and craft beers from our region. Chef David Campos, previously at the Ritz Carleton, is applying his experience and creativity in designing dishes and cocktails that promise a special dining experience in a unique setting.

We have an Italian treat in store for us this month.  We are fortunate to have procured the private Terrazza room at Olio e Limone Pizzeria located upstairs on the 2nd floor.

Our evening will start with a shareable platter of Salumi & Fromaggi Assortiti: Chef's selection of artisanal Italian meats and cheese with Panne alle Erbe and Sale di Salina: Pizza bread, herbs, garlic, Sicilian sea salt from Trapani.  Followed by a 3-course dinner that offers a wide variety of choices from the exhaustive menu. (see below) 

The ALL-INCLUSIVE price is $115 per person and includes food, wine, tax and tip! All you need to do is show up and enjoy! Mangia!

Los Carneros Nature and History Walk

What was once a natural wetland,  Los Carneros ("Duck Pond" in Spanish), part of La Patera ranch, became a small lake in the late 19th century, when its earlier owners built a dam. The spot has become an important location for many species of birds, both native and migrating. This season's winter rains have made it especially welcome to both these birds and the lovely spring-blooming plants that inhabit the area.

We'll spend about an 1 hour + a few minutes taking in the peaceful sites of the area, then optionally head over to a nearby pub for Happy Hour.

As an expected "SBSC Courtesy",  if you need to cancel,  please contact the organizer.   The organizer has made reservations for us.

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN. 

Join your SBSC friends for a night with Janis Joplin.  

More than a mere retrospective, this refined musical journey examines how a remarkable artist channeled her influences—from Bessie Smith to Nina Simone—into a voice that defined an era. Through masterful performances of “Piece of My Heart,” “Summertime,” and other signature works, we witness the artistic lineage that shaped modern music. This production invites discerning audiences to appreciate the profound musicality and emotional authenticity that elevated Joplin beyond celebrity to genuine cultural significance.

SBSC was able to procure 10 tickets at a group rate discount of 15%.

The play runs approximately 120 minutes with an intermission.  We will enjoy an optional nearby Happy Hour together after the play.

Spring Fling- Sunset at the Beach

Join fellow SBSC members to enjoy sunset on East Beach. Bring your own beverage, munchies (share if you wish), and a blanket or chair. This will be a beautiful, casual event to get to know fellow members and end your day Santa Barbara style! 

We'll gather on the sand near the Cabrillo Pavillion at 6pm on 4/16 as a celebration of Spring and take advantage of the sunset, good company and good cheer!

“The Shocking History of Electricity in Santa Barbara”

Have you ever wondered what Santa Barbara was like before electricity came to our city?  Imagine how dramatic the change was when about a dozen street corners went from flickering gas lamps to electrified streetlights overnight and when this modern miracle entered businesses and then residences!

Today just may be the first time that many of you will be hearing about how forward-thinking civic leaders like Charles Fernald and Walter Hawley forever changed Santa Barbara one foggy night in 1887. Find out about the first electric power plants – where they were located and how they produced electrical magic; and which street corners first turned night into day.  From the beginning, there were complaints about lousy service and high prices; hear about a rogue method used to address those situations. And, learn why the beautiful Los Baños Del Mar complex – complete with heated swimming pools and a “Pleasure Pier” – was built next to the 1901 power plant; and how the complex was built at an unheard-of speed, by today’s standards, at a time when communication methods were limited, and essential materials had to arrive by ship. 

About our Speaker: A New Yorker for most of his life, Joe DeLise instantly fell in love with Santa Barbara when he moved here in 2021. He spends much of his spare time learning the history of the area and “colorizing” old photos of the Mission, which you may have seen on the local website EDHAT.  He also enjoys photography, cooking, and playing & teaching backgammon. In his former life, Joe was on the packaging & purchasing side of the cosmetics business, where he had the opportunity to travel internationally for companies such as L’Oréal and Unilever.

Join us for a delightful three-course prix-fixe lunch at cost, complemented by a guided tour of this enchanting farm. The menu features a refreshing Rincon Hill Farm gem lettuce salad, followed by your choice of chicken, trout, or a vegetarian option with two shared vegetable sides, finishing with a delightful dessert. To enhance our dining experience, we’ll have a selection of included red or white wine. The cost for this extraordinary experience is $75 per person, inclusive of tax and tip, payable upon reservation.

This special event at a Private Home with both Ocean and Mountain views will be a treat for the eyes and the palate as well!

Join us for an afternoon of tasting a variety of (TBD wines) from off the beaten path accompanied by delicious hors d'oeuvres. We will socialize while tasting up to 9 different wines with friendly discussions of the sampled wines. Join us for the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Santa Barbara: great food, great wine, and great people enjoyed in the great outdoors. If the weather is chilly we’ll go inside and onto a heated deck.
